Jessi Mona Cartwright-Biggs

What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Jessi Mona Cartwright-Biggs, from Houston, Texas
When did you join the ACTG?
February 2019
Why did you get involved with the ACTG, and what are some of the things you’ve done as a member?
I got involved because the ACTG is a clinical trial organization that seeks participants for clinical trials to find a cure for HIV, TB, and viral hepatitis, and to address complications of these conditions. I believe in this mission.
Describe your community.
My community is marginalized, low income, PLWH (people living with HIV), and LGBTQ.
What are the most important treatment issues to your community?
Treatment issues in my community are the availability of medications, adherence, education, and training.
How do you want your work in the ACTG to be remembered?
I just attended my first ACTG meeting in June, 2019, so I don’t know what the future holds for my work with the ACTG. But I am eager to keep soaking up all of the available information. I hope I continue networking with new people from Africa to New York.
What are your future hopes for the ACTG and HIV research?
My future hopes for the ACTG and HIV research are, first and foremost, a CURE! Additionally, my hope is for inclusiveness and diversity in all aspects of research. We need the researchers and the researchers need us. The HIV cure will need to be for everyone, and so researchers need to bring that diversity to the table.
